SHAH ALAM – Selangor Pas Youth has called on the Selangor State Government to address persistent flooding in the state, warning that residents remain at risk of losing tens of thousands of ringgit every year as the monsoon season intensifies.

Its chief Mohamed Sukri Omar stressed that flood mitigation must be made a top priority, with transparency on progress and accountability from contractors.

“As we are now in the monsoon season, we hope the state government will give full attention to flood mitigation.

“I have been speaking about this for two years. We request the Menteri Besar to present a progress report. The purpose? So that the public knows the developments regarding flood mitigation,” he told reporters at Karangkraf Complex on Friday.

Sukri warned that contractors must execute their work diligently, without neglecting responsibilities.

“Contractors must focus on their work and not wash their hands of responsibility. This is what worries us the most. That is why we are requesting the progress report, so that the public knows what the state government is doing. So the people are not living in constant fear,” he added.

He highlighted areas such as Taman Seri Muda and parts of Shah Alam, where residents reportedly remain anxious whenever heavy rain occurs.

“Every time it rains, they are in a state of fear. Some of them in Taman Seri Muda, part of Shah Alam, are anxious. Therefore, I hope this issue receives the attention it deserves,” he said.

Selangor Pas Youth has consistently raised flood management as a key concern, emphasising that delayed action and lack of transparency exacerbate the impact on local communities.

Sukri’s call aligns with broader demands for accountability from the state government, particularly on how allocated funds for flood mitigation are being utilised.

Recently, during the tabling of the state's 2026 Budget, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari proposed an allocation of RM54.34 million to strengthen flood mitigation initiatives in major river basins, with the addition of 17 new projects.

The major river basins involved are Sungai Klang (RM16.92mil), Sungai Langat (RM16.51mil), Sungai Selangor (RM5.74mil), Sungai Buloh (RM1mil), and Sungai Bernam and Sungai Kapar Besar (RM2.8mil).
