Pas' Dr Aliakbar Gulasan jumps ahead in fierce 11-cornered Karambunai battle

The Sabah PN deputy chairman has secured 92 votes, giving him an early advantage over GRS candidate Arshad Idris, who has obtained 63 votes.

KOTA KINABALU – A fierce contest for the Karambunai state seat has seen Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate from Pas Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan, taking the lead based on unofficial results so far.

The Sabah PN deputy chairman has secured 92 votes, giving him an early advantage over Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate Arshad Idris, who has obtained 63 votes.

Warisan’s Ahmad Jais Otong follows closely with 47 votes, while Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Yaakubah Khan, who previously represented the constituency, has received 26 votes.

Three other candidates have each recorded one vote — Azman Fathil (GAS), Adis Jalie (PIS) and Ajis @ Hates Abdul (SPP).

Meanwhile, four more candidates — Mohd Yunus Ibrahim (PBK), Matkri Kassim (PKS), Stephen Teo (STAR Sabah) and Raynold Saikam Salinggou (Perpaduan) — have yet to receive any votes.

The Karambunai constituency is witnessing an 11-cornered fight, with a total of 39,247 registered voters. As of this report, 231 votes have been counted.
