MANJUNG - A worker at a 24-hour grocery shop in Manjung Point, Sitiawan was shocked on Monday night after discovering what turned out to be a homemade bomb placed on a food rack inside the store.

Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the staff noticed the suspicious object at about 10.30pm before alerting the authorities.

Following the report, officers from the Manjung district police headquarters together with the Bomb Disposal Unit were deployed to the location to conduct inspection and implement safety measures.

"The inspection confirmed that the object was a homemade bomb.

"However, the object was not functional as it contained no explosive material and did not have a complete circuit," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Hasbullah added that police later arrested a man in front of the premises on suspicion of being involved in the case. The incident is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

He also reminded the public not to engage in any act that may endanger the community.

"The public is reminded not to misuse technology to create any form of threat that may disturb peace.

"We will not compromise when it comes to such actions," he said.
