In a post shared on Dec 4, Fumio, who served as Japan’s prime minister from 2021 to 2024, revealed the meeting, writing, “Former Canadian prime minister Trudeau came to Japan with his partner Katy Perry and had lunch with us. I am glad that we are continuing this friendship.”

He also recounted the collaborations he and Trudeau shared during their respective terms as heads of government.

Trudeau, who stepped down from his role in January 2025, reposted Fumio's message, writing, “Great to see you. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone.”

The lunch marked the first time Perry formally joined Trudeau in a political setting.

The former Canadian leader, accompanied by the pop icon, appeared in a grey suit paired with a light blue button-down and tie, while Perry wore an army-green two-piece skirt set layered over a black turtleneck, matched with tights and black boots.

The “Dark Horse” singer, who shares her daughter Daisy Dove with ex-partner Orlando Bloom, ended their nine-year relationship before being linked to Trudeau.

As for the former Canadian prime minister, he separated from Sophie Gregoire in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. He and Gregoire continue to co-parent their three children.

The couple’s romance entered the spotlight more openly in October when they made their first public appearance together during Perry’s birthday celebration at the Crazy Horse Paris cabaret.
