Gunshots on pair leave one dead in suspected gang rivalry

SEREMBAN - A 43-year-old man has died from gunshot wounds after he was waylaid by an assailant while driving along Jalan Rasah near here.

Negeri Sembilan Deputy Police Chief Dep Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the deceased, who was believed to be a bodyguard-cum-driver to another victim who was also in the car, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital.

"The deceased was in critical condition and I have been made to understand that he just succumbed to his injuries," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Dec 10).

DCP Alzafny said the two were attacked at 7.30am in rush-hour traffic near Mambau heading towards the Port Dickson toll plaza.

"Preliminary probe revealed that an assailant on a motorcycle had opened fire at the car while approaching the plaza.

"We believe the motive of the attack was revenge and gang rivalry, although investigations are ongoing," he said.

He said the other victim, receiving treatment and in his 40s, was a suspect in the slashing of a man in a mall in April.

DCP Alzafny said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and section 3 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971. - THE STAR
