Muhyiddin resigns as Perikatan Nasional chairman, effective Jan 1, 2026
He extended his best wishes to the entire PN leadership and its component parties.

KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announces his resignation as chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The former prime minister confirmed the decision in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
“I have decided to resign as PN chairman, effective from Jan 1, 2026.
“I would like to thank all PN leaders who have long supported me during my leadership since the coalition’s formation five years ago,” he said.
Muhyiddin also extended his best wishes to the entire PN leadership and its component parties.
Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who is also the Pasir Mas member of parliament, confirmed that Muhyiddin had expressed his intention to step down as head of the coalition.
He said Muhyiddin’s decision was wise and appropriate, particularly as PN seeks fresh momentum ahead of the 16th general election (GE16).
“I am confident Pas will put forward a candidate from the party to lead Perikatan Nasional as its new chairman.
“It does not necessarily have to be the president of a party, but someone trusted to unite the strength of the parties under PN,” he said.
He added that a reshuffle within PN’s organisation would be undertaken to allow greater focus on future work.
“Congratulations to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his openness. All the best to the new chairman of Perikatan Nasional,” he added.
