SHAH ALAM – Singapore badminton ace Yeo Jia Min and former national swimmer Pang Sheng Jun have announced their engagement, drawing warm congratulations from the sporting community.

Yeo, 26, shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday, posting photos of herself wearing an engagement ring alongside Pang, 33, with the caption: “Yes to you. Yes to forever.”

The announcement quickly attracted thousands of likes and congratulatory messages from fellow athletes, fans and friends.

Among those extending their wishes were Yeo’s international rivals, including South Korean world number one An Se-young and Thailand’s former world champion Ratchanok Intanon, as well as Singapore athletes past and present such as shuttler Jason Teh, sprinter Shanti Pereira, swimmer Quah Ting Wen, fencer Amita Berthier and former hurdler Dipna Lim-Prasad.

The couple have been together for five years.

According to a previous interview, their first meeting took place during the 2015 SEA Games send-off ceremony at the Singapore Sports School.

They later reconnected during the Covid-19 circuit breaker period, when Yeo appeared in one of Pang’s Instagram live workout sessions, and the two occasionally trained together.

Reflecting on their relationship, Yeo previously shared that she values the effort Pang puts into expressing appreciation.

“The most romantic thing is when he takes time to express his gratitude,” she said.

Pang, meanwhile, said he cherishes the small gestures Yeo makes, especially during meaningful moments.

“It’s the little things that matter most, like how she hugs me when I need it,” he said, adding that those moments bring him the greatest sense of warmth.
