KOTA TINGGI – The Umno Supreme Council (MKT) has yet to be informed of any proposal for cooperation between Umno and Pas under Muafakat Nasional (MN), as voiced by Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that cooperation between Umno and Pas through MN remains, for now, a personal view of Akmal.

“The top leadership has not discussed the matter (MN) to date. That is his view.

“An individual view or perhaps the view of most of the youth, but the party moves based on collective support and decisions made at various levels. There has been no discussion. We have not held a meeting yet,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after a meet-and-greet session with the Kampung Malam community at the Pangkalan Kota Open Hall here on Friday.

On Dec 25, Akmal proposed that Perikatan Nasional (PN) be dissolved and MN revived following the political polemic in Perlis.

He also said that efforts to strengthen MN instead of PN had been raised even before the 15th General Election (GE15).

Previously, MN — whose agreement was signed on September 14, 2019 between Umno and Pas — could be considered defunct after Pas finalised its cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) under PN to face GE15.

Pas’ decision effectively breached a condition set by Umno, which required the party to sever ties with Bersatu if it wished to continue cooperating under MN.
