Selangor Pas Youth urges probe into ‘glamping’ programme alleged to promote LGBT lifestyle
The group was alleged to be organising a casual programme titled "Glamping With Pride."
SHAH ALAM – Selangor Pas Youth has urged authorities to immediately investigate and take firm, uncompromising action against organisers of what it described as an immoral programme that normalises gender ideology.
Its chief Mohamed Sukri Omar said the wing viewed seriously the organisation of a programme that he claimed openly promotes a “deviant lifestyle.”
He said the country must not take a lax approach in the name of what he described as false tolerance, warning that doing so would compromise values, morality and the future of society.
The Shah Alam Pas chief stressed that tolerance does not mean allowing immorality to be promoted openly.
“Malaysia is not a value-free country. The Federal Constitution places Islam as the religion of the Federation, while societal norms are built on the foundations of morality, family and social well-being.
“The organisation of such programmes is not merely an issue of freedom. It touches on public order, social morality, social security and the protection of the younger generation.
“What is more worrying is the existence of elements of propaganda promoting a deviant lifestyle in an open, organised manner with social influence,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Sukri said all parties must respect the country’s legal framework.
He also called for attempts to import foreign ideologies that were inconsistent with Malaysia’s identity to be halted.
Previously, the issue drew attention on social media after an association describing itself as a support group for “queer, gay and bisexual” youths uploaded a poster on Instagram.
The group was alleged to be organising a casual programme titled “Glamping With Pride” with members of the community for two days and one night on Jan 17 and 18, believed to be in the Hulu Langat area.
The registration link for the programme reportedly listed five gender options: cisgender male, cisgender female, transgender male, transgender female and non-binary.
