SHAH ALAM - Muslims are urged to become the "eyes and ears" of the authorities to prevent efforts by certain quarters allegedly trying to promote the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) lifestyle in the country.

Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad said early prevention by stopping such activities was crucial because if left unchecked, it has the potential to destroy the nation.

"The actions of these groups who dare to openly organise activities promoting the LGBT lifestyle are like drilling holes in the ship we are all on.

"At any moment, the ship could sink or in other words, society will suffer the consequences because it invites the wrath of Allah SWT," he told Sinar on Sunday.

Shukri said in the Quran, Allah SWT has narrated about the people of Prophet Luth AS who were cursed and destroyed for engaging in extreme deviant acts that violated natural human disposition.

"Therefore, we should work together to prevent this from happening by immediately reporting any information regarding such events to the relevant authorities, because prevention is better than cure," he said.

He stressed that promoting the LGBT lifestyle also delivered a major blow to government efforts to uphold Islam in the country.

"While we are working to elevate the prominence of Islam, suddenly such immoral agendas appear, clearly reflecting Western influence.

"It delivers a significant blow to the position of Islam as the religion of the Federation and to the nation’s legal standing," he said.
