KUALA LUMPUR – MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan attended the Umno General Assembly 2025 on Friday, despite reports that his party is currently reviewing its position and future direction within Barisan Nasional (BN).

The Tapah MP arrived at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur at about 9am and was seen mingling with several Umno leaders before entering the assembly hall.

Saravanan, who is also a former Human Resources Minister said on Dec 14, 2025, that MIC would remain a BN component party until a final decision is made by its Central Working Committee.

According to him, the party’s top leadership will convene in the near future to discuss MIC’s political direction, including speculation over the possibility of forming cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“Until a decision is made by MIC’s Central Working Committee, we will continue to remain with BN,” he told reporters.

Earlier, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported as saying that no meetings had been held between BN and MIC following the party’s 79th Annual General Assembly, which passed a motion to withdraw from the coalition.

At the time, Zahid also reminded BN component parties to think carefully before deciding to leave a coalition that has been forged and maintained for a long period.

Speculation that MIC may cooperate with PN arose after the party reportedly received informal overtures from leaders of Pas to join the Opposition coalition.
