Duo crushed to death while repairing lorry brakes in Siburan

Rescue operations were carried out after the lorry's side was lifted using two excavators.

KUCHING - Two men were killed after being crushed by a 10-tonne lorry loaded with stones while repairing the vehicle’s brakes along Jalan Mambong, Siburan, today.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO), a distress call regarding the incident was received at 2pm.

"The incident occurred when the two victims (the lorry driver and attendant) were repairing the lorry’s brakes at a quarry road before being crushed and trapped underneath the vehicle.

"Rescue operations to extricate the trapped victims were successfully carried out, with the first victim removed at 4.55pm and the second at 5.04pm after lifting the side of the lorry using two excavators belonging to the quarry company,” it said.

The bodies of the victims, aged 46 and 26, were handed over to the police for further action. - BERNAMA
