‘Khairy has not applied’, says Umno sec-gen as party advances ‘Rumah Bangsa’ plan
The developments were in line with Zahid’s recently announced Rumah Bangsa initiative.

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has yet to submit an application to rejoin the party, even as Umno continues to receive requests from former leaders and members seeking a return.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said any decision regarding applications, including Khairy’s, would ultimately be guided by resolutions passed at the 2025 Umno General Assembly and further direction from party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He added that the developments were in line with Zahid’s recently announced Rumah Bangsa initiative, a unity-driven framework aimed at consolidating support and strengthening Umno ahead of future political challenges.
“That is why we are waiting for the president’s winding-up speech, because in his policy address, he announced the establishment of the Rumah Bangsa Committee and the Rumah Bangsa Unity Committee.
“These are among the key resolutions of this year’s assembly,” Asyraf told reporters during a press conference at the Umno General Assembly on Saturday.
Responding to claims that the Rumah Bangsa initiative was designed primarily to boost Umno’s seat count in the next general election, Asyraf said electoral success remained a fundamental requirement for any political party seeking to implement its agenda.
He stressed that Umno carried a responsibility to safeguard the interests of religion, race and the nation within the framework of Malaysia’s multi-racial and multi-religious society.
“Umno understands the reality of a plural society. We are a moderate and progressive party with experience in managing diversity with order and wisdom.
“Our strength is not meant to discriminate or oppress but to ensure continued stability and harmony in the country,” he said.
When asked specifically about Khairy, Asyraf said no application had been received so far from the former Rembau MP, despite widespread speculation surrounding his political future.
“As for Khairy, not yet. But that is fine. Let the Rumah Bangsa Unity Committee determine the terms and considerations,” he said.
