KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian actress Nadia Kesuma, who was reported missing after arriving at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah last Thursday, has left the airport.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the Malaysian Consulate in Jeddah had verified through local immigration records that Nadia, whose full name is Nadiah Kasumawati Abdul Karim, exited the airport shortly after her arrival in Saudi Arabia.

“We have been in contact with the police and immigration authorities. Immigration records at Jeddah airport show that she had already left the airport, which means she is no longer within the airport premises,” he told reporters when met on the sidelines at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

He said the Malaysian Consulate had been working closely with Saudi police and immigration officials to trace Nadia's movements, adding that cooperation between Malaysian and Saudi authorities was ongoing.

Mohamad said that under local regulations, a missing persons report could only be formally lodged after 20 hours had passed.

“After 20 hours, a person can be categorised as missing. As of today, that timeframe has passed and I have instructed our consular office in Jeddah to take all necessary steps,” he added.

He also stressed that the travel agency involved must not evade responsibility, noting that Nadia had travelled as part of a group.

“The travel agent must be accountable. We need to know who she travelled with and the details of her group. She was part of a group of 20 people,” he said.

Mohamad added that Malaysian authorities remained confident in the ability of Saudi law enforcement to assist in the search.

“We believe the Royal Saudi Police will provide strong cooperation. They are highly capable and we must trust their expertise.

“We also urge the family to remain calm while every effort is being made to locate her,” he said.

Nadia, known for her roles in Gerak Khas and the film Syaitan Munafik, was travelling to Jeddah to perform umrah before continuing her journey to London and Paris.

However, she failed to check in for her connecting flight to London as scheduled.

Her family members and friends have appealed to the public to pray for Nadia’s safe return.

Nadia has also appeared in the film Kudeta and television dramas Suri Hati and Bintang.
