Rayer, Muhyiddin exchange barbs in Dewan Rakyat over Perlis political situation
Rayer rose to interject during Muhyiddin’s debate on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s Royal Address, comparing the country’s national stability with the crisis unfolding in the northern state.

KUALA LUMPUR – The atmosphere in the Dewan Rakyat turned tense today following a heated exchange between RSN Rayer (PH–Jelutong) and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (PN–Pagoh) over the ongoing political turmoil in Perlis.
Rayer rose to interject during Muhyiddin’s debate on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s Royal Address, comparing the country’s national stability with the crisis unfolding in the northern state.
“At a time when the country is stable, we are able to face any challenge—unlike the political upheaval in Perlis.
“My logical question is this...when our politics are stable and the government is strong, how can a small state like Perlis see a Menteri Besar toppled due to infighting between Bersatu and Pas?” Rayer said.
Muhyiddin, who was speaking on the Agreement Reciprocal Trade (ART) between Malaysia and the United States at the time, dismissed the matter, stating it was not relevant to the debate.
“It is not relevant to what we are discussing,” he said, though Rayer continued to press his point.
“Relevant, Pagoh! Relevant!” Rayer insisted.
Muhyiddin then accused Rayer of deliberately raising the issue with ill intent and malice, adding that the situation in Perlis had already been resolved in accordance with the responsibilities and wisdom of the Raja Perlis.
The exchange remained heated when Rayer questioned Perikatan Nasional’s ability to govern the nation.
“If even a small state cannot be governed, the country will be destroyed if Perikatan Nasional rules,” he claimed.
Muhyiddin responded by asserting that Perlis is a sovereign state and that the issue had been settled wisely through proper channels.
