Boy drowns at Melaka hot spring pool

MELAKA - A family vacation from Pahang to Melaka turned tragic when a young boy is believed to have drowned at a hot spring pool here on Sunday night.
In the incident at about 7.40pm, the six-year-old victim was found unconscious and floating in the adult pool by members of the public.
The incident was reported to the Community Partner Team (Parakom).
Upon arriving at the scene, the team immediately moved the victim to a safe area, administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and contacted the MERS999 emergency hotline.
An ambulance from Alor Gajah Hospital arrived with a medical team and transported the child to the hospital for further treatment. He was later confirmed dead at 8.24pm.
It is understood that at the time of the incident, the victim was under the supervision of his aunt and older sister.
However, the boy is believed to have gone to the adult pool without the knowledge of other family members before being discovered drowned by members of the public.
The victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Alor Gajah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar confirmed the incident when contacted.
He said further investigations would be carried out by the D11 Division (Sexual, Women and Children Investigation) of the Melaka police contingent headquarters.
