TAMPIN – A 14-year-old boy died after falling into a 10-metre-deep drainage hole along Jalan Bunga Tanjung here on Monday night.
The incident, which occurred at about 10.10pm, happened after the motorcycle he was riding on with his 17-year-old brother was involved in an accident at the location.
Tampin district police chief Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman said the two brothers were travelling on a Yamaha Y100 motorcycle and were on their way to a friend’s house in Kuala Ina at the time.
“Further investigations found that the rider and the pillion passenger were travelling from Tampin town towards Kuala Ina after having dinner.
“Upon reaching the scene, the rider is believed to have lost control while negotiating a bend and collided with a water culvert that was under construction on the left shoulder of the road,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the collision caused the pillion rider to be thrown into the 10-metre-deep drainage hole and the victim was later retrieved with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department.
The victim was rushed to Tampin Hospital but was pronounced dead at 11.30pm while receiving treatment.
“The motorcycle rider sustained only minor injuries.
“Members of the public who have information related to the accident are urged to come forward to the Traffic Police Station at the Tampin district police headquarters or contact the investigating officer, Inspector Sritharan, at 06-441 2502 to assist in the investigation,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and investigations are ongoing.
