SHAH ALAM - Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) appoints Raja Datin Paduka Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz as its new Group chief executive officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2026.
Raja Teh Maimunah succeeds Datuk Mohd Muazzam Mohamed, who retired early in December 2025 after more than a decade of leading the bank.
Under Muazzam’s leadership, Bank Islam strengthened its position as Malaysia’s pioneering Islamic bank while navigating an increasingly complex digital financial landscape.
Bank Islam chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar said the appointment marks an important milestone for the group.
"We are delighted to welcome Raja Teh Maimunah as our new Group CEO. Her proven leadership in Islamic finance and digital innovation aligns perfectly with our strategic aspirations and expectations.
"The Board is confident that under her leadership, the Group will continue to strengthen its market position, drive innovation and deliver sustainable value to all stakeholders while upholding the highest standards of integrity and Shariah compliance," he said in a statement.
Raja Teh Maimunah brings over 30 years of experience in the financial sector, including senior roles at AmBank Group, Hong Leong Islamic Bank and Bursa Malaysia.
Notably, she was the founding CEO of AEON Bank (M) Bhd, where she led the launch of Malaysia’s first Islamic digital bank and developed its cloud-native infrastructure, setting new standards in Syariah-compliant digital banking.
She also pioneered Bursa Suq Al-Sila’, the world’s first fully Syariah-compliant commodity trading platform, during her tenure as Global Head of Islamic Markets at Bursa Malaysia.
Her industry contributions have been recognised with awards, including Islamic Finance Personality of the Year (2016) and Asean Outstanding Woman Banker (2025).
Bank Islam said Raja Teh Maimunah's appointment signals a new phase in the bank’s digital transformation journey.
She will spearhead initiatives to bridge digital expertise with Bank Islam’s established legacy in Islamic finance, positioning the Group as a leading institution in the sector.
Raja Teh Maimunah holds an LLB (Hons) and an Honorary Doctor of Law from the University of East London.
She is also a certified Fellow of the Chartered Banker Institute and a Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (CPIF).
