Hamzah, Muhyiddin absent from Dewan Rakyat sitting

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were absent from the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Pagoh Member of Parliament Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were absent from the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday.

It is understood that Hamzah is currently overseas to attend to his child’s education matters and has informed the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul of his absence.

Muhyiddin, meanwhile, was at the Federal Court in Putrajaya from Monday morning for his sedition case, stemming from remarks made during the Nenggiri state by-election campaign at Dewan Semai Bakti, FELDA Perasu, in August 2024.

The alleged remarks concerned claims that he was not invited by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to be sworn in as Prime Minister after the 15th General Election, despite reportedly having the support of 115 out of 222 Members of Parliament at the time.

Perikatan Nasional (PN), comprising Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), is currently facing a leadership crisis involving both leaders.

Hamzah, who is Bersatu’s deputy president, is alleged to be summoned before the party’s disciplinary board to assist in an investigation into his alleged involvement in disruptions during the party’s Annual General Assembly and attacks against Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president.

Based on a letter purported to be a second notice of summons dated Feb 6 and signed by Bersatu Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, four written disciplinary complaints were lodged against Hamzah on Sept 30, 2025, and Feb 5 this year.

The notice also stated that failure to attend the session would allow the disciplinary board to make a decision without further reference, and that any decision made would be final.

On Sunday night, Sinar reported that Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu were among those present at a special meeting held at Muhyiddin’s residence.
