Dissolution of 11 Bersatu divisions: Umno offers itself as umbrella for Malay unity in Johor
Umno’s doors remain open to Bersatu members affected by the development.

JOHOR BAHRU – Umno has offered itself as the umbrella for Malay political unity in Johor following the dissolution of 11 Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) divisions in the state, a move believed to stem from prolonged internal turmoil.
Johor Bahru Umno division chief Datuk Yahya Jaafar said the development proves that division only weakens Malay political strength, ultimately affecting stability and the direction of the struggle.
"Since its establishment, Umno has been the main platform for the Malay struggle, shaping national leadership and policies and it remains relevant as a unifying force to this day.
"Umno is not merely a political party, but a big house for the Malay community. In an increasingly challenging political landscape, unity is a necessity, not a choice," he said in a statement on Thursday.
On Wednesday, 11 Bersatu divisions in Johor announced their dissolution amid the party’s ongoing internal crisis.
The divisions involved are Mersing, Pontian, Johor Bahru, Labis, Simpang Renggam, Sembrong, Pengerang, Tanjung Piai, Ledang, Pulai and Sri Gading.
Pontian Bersatu division chief Datuk Isa Ab Hamid, representing the division leaders, said the decision was made due to the absence of any clear response from the party leadership to a media statement submitted on Jan 27.
Meanwhile, Yahya stressed that Umno’s doors remain open to Bersatu members affected by the development to return to what he described as the original platform of struggle, in order to collectively and effectively strengthen the Malay political voice.
He said the call aligns with the Rumah Bangsa concept introduced by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, aimed at reuniting Malay strength under stable and trusted leadership.
He urged all parties to set aside narrow differences, reject divisive politics and support efforts to strengthen Johor’s stability for the well-being of the people and the future of the state.
