Student in viral Quran desecration case is a convert, Firdaus Wong says
He said the man was persistent in seeking guidance to embrace Islam.

SHAH ALAM – The individual accused of stepping on the Quran is a convert who recited the syahadah on April 25 last year.
The matter was revealed by independent preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung in a Facebook post on Monday.
He said the man had previously contacted him via Instagram and was persistent in seeking guidance to embrace Islam.
“He was a good, polite young man who spoke gently. He reached out to me on Instagram and repeatedly insisted and pursued me to help him convert.
“Honestly, I am shocked. What happened to him? Was he influenced, provoked, or is there something else? I also want to understand and help,” he said.
Previously, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) said the student would be charged at the Kuantan Sessions Court in Pahang on Tuesday.
The man faces two charges, including desecrating a sacred object - the Quran - by allegedly stepping on it, under Section 295 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
He will also be charged with initiating the transmission of grossly offensive communication with the intent to hurt others via the Threads application.
