PETALING JAYA - The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have denied that it had arrested minors under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

"The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) denies making any arrests or detentions of minors under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA)," said the department director Commissioner Datuk M. Kumar, when contacted.

He added that there was no record from the CID on the detention of a 17-year-old on Feb 15, as alleged by the human rights group, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram).

“However, there are other departments within the police force that have the authority to make arrests and conduct investigations under Sosma,” he said.

Earlier, Suaram had said that it had sent an official complaint to the Office of the Children's Commissioner over the arrest of a 17-year-old boy in Alor Setar.

Those include two 17-year-olds from Langkawi and Alor Setar.

It added that a total of six children were currently detained under Sosma. - THE STAR
