Security dispute sparks brawl at Meru police station, eight arrested
Some of the suspects had multiple past criminal records.

SHAH ALAM - A dispute over a security area at a housing site is believed to be the motive behind a disturbance and fight involving two groups at the Meru Police Station in Klang last Monday.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigations found that all the suspects knew each other and were involved in secret society gangs.
He said police have arrested all eight local male suspects involved in the case.
“The first arrest involved five suspects aged between 28 and 41 who were remanded for three days until March 5 before being extended for another day.
“The second arrest involved two men aged 39 and 44 who were remanded for three days until March 6, while the third arrest involved another individual who was also remanded for three days until March 7,” he said in a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters here on Thursday.
He said checks showed that some of the suspects had multiple past criminal records, including murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, Section 307 of the Penal Code (attempted murder), Section 395/397 of the Penal Code (gang robbery) as well as rioting with weapons and housebreaking.
He added that one of the suspects was also wanted under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) 1959.
He said that in addition, one of the suspects tested positive for benzodiazepine-type drugs.
“Police also seized one helmet and one metal pipe believed to have been used in the incident,” he said.
Shazeli stressed that police will take firm action without compromise against any individual who challenges the sovereignty of police institutions and public order.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code, Section 427 of the Penal Code, Section 324 of the Penal Code and the Police Act 1967, as well as Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.
