Batu Rakit Barber brings haircuts to the doorstep of the disabled and bedridden

SHAH ALAM – Muhammad Irfan Fikry Ismail, 22, is transforming the local grooming scene by running a mobile barber service across Batu Rakit in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, bringing haircuts directly to clients who struggle to access traditional shops.

Irfan stated that he chose to offer the service not merely as a supplementary income, but because he empathised with the challenges faced by clients with physical disabilities.

The idea of travelling from house to house was born when he realised that many members of the community were unable to visit a barber due to chronic health issues.

The bag Irfan uses also serves as an indirect way to promote the services he offers.

“I chose the mobile concept because it makes things easier for clients, especially those who are unwell or people with disabilities (PWD).

“The advantage is that clients do not need to waste time waiting for their turn at a shop. I visit according to their free time and convenience,” he told Sinar.

Despite only working part-time during the mornings and evenings, Irfan noted that demand has been encouraging, with daily earnings sometimes reaching nearly RM150.

However, the convenience he offers to his clients comes with its own set of hurdles, as he relies solely on a motorcycle for transport.

“The biggest challenge is being on the road during heavy rain. I do not have a car, so mobility is limited, and it is very difficult if it pours while I am on my way to a client’s house,” he said.

Thanks to organic public support and his services being shared across social media, Irfan now harbours larger ambitions for his hairdressing career.

Currently, he provides haircuts for both men and women, alongside hair washing and trims, focusing on regular clients near his home.

“Insya-Allah, I hope to buy a car to make travelling to clients easier, even in the rain,” he said, adding that he also aspires to open his own barbershop one day.

Irfan believes that perseverance and maintaining strong relationships with his clientele are the cornerstones of a successful business.

“My advice is not to give up easily. Always learn new things and improve skills that others may not have. For those interested in this field, it is important to take care of clients and provide the best service until they are completely satisfied,” he said.
