GOMBAK – The World #QuranHour (WQH) 2026 programme has opened its 11th edition, broadcast live for one hour from the main venue at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque, International Islamic University Malaysia.
With the theme “Shaping the Human Self Before Changing the World” and conducted in English for the first time, the annual programme focuses on Surah Al-Muzzammil as its theme.
The mosque compound began filling with members of the public and invited guests from 9am.
This year’s event carries special significance as the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan Pahang graced WQH 2026 with their presence.
Their attendance highlights support for efforts to cultivate a culture of reading, understanding and appreciating the Quran among the community.

Also present were Deputy Economy Minister Mohd Shahar Abdullah; Abdul Rashid Hussain; IIUM Rector Osman Bakar and Hussamuddin Yaacub, founder of the Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation.
A total of 13 diplomats and embassy representatives from 13 countries are expected to enliven this year’s World #QuranHour, including participants from Oman, Tajikistan, Russia, Jordan, Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq.
WQH 2026 is held under the patronage of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, with International Islamic University Malaysia serving as co-organiser.
This year also marks the seventh time IIUM has hosted the programme.

The continued synergy between the Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation and IIUM not only strengthens the implementation of the programme nationally but also expands its impact globally.
The programme is supported by strategic partners including the Islamic Tourism Centre, Selangor Public Library Corporation, the Council of Directors of Malaysian Public Libraries, Karangkraf, Sinar Karangkraf, Rasuah Busters, Karya Bestari, Akademi Sinergi Ikhlas Sdn Bhd, Rumah Ngaji and Sahabah Al-Quran, as well as government and non-government organisations locally and internationally.
