Sunway Medical Centre named Malaysia’s top hospital in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026
With the completion of Tower F (Children’s Pavilion), the hospital will expand to more than 1,000 beds, supported by a multidisciplinary team providing integrated and personalised care.

SHAH ALAM – Sunway Medical Centre (SMC) has been ranked number one in Malaysia in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026 list.
The recognition highlights the hospital’s strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety and quality care.
In the global rankings, SMC climbed to 138th place worldwide, improving from 193rd in 2025 and 233rd in 2024, while maintaining its position as Malaysia’s top hospital.
Sunway Healthcare Group president Datuk Lau Beng Long said the hospital is honoured to receive the recognition again.
"This achievement reflects the dedication of our doctors, nurses and staff, as well as the trust our patients and partners place in us both locally and internationally," he said.
He added that the hospital will continue to strengthen clinical governance, improve patient safety and experience and invest in capabilities that support high-quality healthcare.
Global recognition among leading hospitals
The ranking evaluates more than 2,500 hospitals selected from over 200,000 healthcare institutions worldwide, including public, teaching, university and private hospitals. Only the top 250 hospitals globally are featured on the list.
The ranking also includes some of the world’s most respected hospitals such as Mayo Clinic - Rochester, Toronto General Hospital under University Health Network, Cleveland Clinic, The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Singapore General Hospital.
The evaluation uses several factors, including recommendations from more than 100,000 medical experts worldwide, patient experience data, hospital quality indicators and patient feedback collected through surveys by Statista.
Expanding services and facilities
As the flagship hospital of Sunway Healthcare Group, Sunway Medical Centre currently has more than 300 resident medical consultants and offers services across over 80 medical specialties and 28 Centres of Excellence.
With the completion of Tower F (Children’s Pavilion), the hospital will expand to more than 1,000 beds, supported by a multidisciplinary team providing integrated and personalised care.
SMC is also the first private hospital in Malaysia to receive three major hospital-wide accreditations:
- Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal of Approval
- Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI)
- Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH)
