Foreign-registered vehicle drivers buying RON95 to face legal action starting next Wednesday
The ministry is finalising preparations to enforce the expanded ban on the purchase and sale of RON95 petrol for foreign-registered vehicles.

PUTRAJAYA - Drivers of foreign-registered vehicles who purchase RON95 petrol will face legal action as the ban on the purchase and sale of the subsidised fuel is expanded and takes effect next Wednesday.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the ministry is finalising preparations to enforce the expanded ban on the purchase and sale of RON95 petrol for foreign-registered vehicles.
He explained that the expansion strengthens the existing legal framework, which previously placed the offence only on petrol station operators.
"Effective April 1, 2026, the offence will also include drivers or owners of foreign-registered vehicles," he said on Thursday.
He made the statement after chairing a meeting with the ministry’s enforcement division to finalise preparations for implementing the policy.
Elaborating further, Armizan said the enforcement follows a decision presented in Parliament on Jan 29.
At the same time, he said enforcement efforts will continue to be strengthened through the implementation of OPS Tiris 4.0 (Integrated) to ensure compliance with the regulation, in line with the increased risk of fuel smuggling leakages in border areas following tensions in West Asia.
"I remind all parties, whether petrol station operators or foreign motor vehicle users, to comply with this ban.
"The ministry will not compromise with any individual, syndicate or operator involved in fuel smuggling or the misuse of fuel subsidies.
"Failure to comply with these regulations will result in strict action under the law," he said.
Armizan also urged the public to continue acting as the government’s eyes and ears by reporting complaints and providing information on suspicious activities related to subsidised fuel smuggling.
"With the cooperation of all parties in line with the Kita Gempur agenda, we will continue to ensure the people’s interests are protected and leakages are curbed for the common good," he said.
