A ROMANTIC moment atop Malaysia’s highest peak has captured the nation’s attention, with the proposal video of Muar Member of Parliament (MP) Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to singer-actress Bella Astillah emerging as the fifth most widely used trending sound on Instagram.
The heartfelt clip, filmed during a rain-soaked proposal at the summit of Mount Kinabalu, has resonated strongly with social media users, turning a personal milestone into a widely shared expression of love online.
The viral video shows Syed delivering an emotional proposal despite challenging weather conditions, before asking Bella, “It is the imperfections, which make this matter even more. Will you marry me?”
The soundbite has since been widely reused by Instagram users in romantic-themed content, helping propel the engagement moment into the platform’s trending audio rankings.
The couple was engaged on March 28, with Syed Saddiq describing Bella as an exceptional partner whose character and compassion stood out beyond her public persona.
“I am the luckiest man in the world. I do not love Bella in spite of her children, but because of them,” he said in his engagement speech.
The Muar MP also shared details of the Mount Kinabalu proposal in a Facebook post, describing the moment as the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
"I asked and she said yes. This is not the end of the story, it is our beginning. And today is our engagement ceremony, please pray for us.
“It began with a simple collaboration that eventually raised more than RM6 million for the people and without realising it, brought two hearts together. Allah SWT is the best of planners,” he wrote.
The engagement marks a new phase for Bella following her divorce from Singaporean singer Aliff Aziz in June 2024, after nearly eight years of marriage.
