NEW DELHI – Police have arrested a man along with his parents and younger brother for allegedly being involved in the murder of his four-year-old twin daughters in a tragic incident in Jubilee Nagar village, India, recently.

According to authorities, the main suspect, Srisailam, 28, is believed to have planned the killing with his father, Ashok, mother, Lavanya and younger brother, Rakesh, as they viewed daughters as a burden to the family.

Investigating officer, District Police Inspector A Niranjan Reddy, said the suspect had from the beginning not wanted daughters and had instead preferred sons.

During his wife Mounika’s pregnancy in 2022, he allegedly tried to force her to terminate the pregnancy after learning she was carrying twin girls.

“After the children were born, the suspect showed no affection towards them and refused to go near them.

“Other family members shared the same view,” he said.

Investigations also found that the suspect frequently argued with his wife before she was eventually sent back to her family home.

He is also believed to have been concerned that his assets, estimated at nearly 20 million rupees (about RM867,000), would be depleted by the future expenses of raising the girls.

In the incident on April 3, Srisailam, acting in collusion with the other suspects, brought both children to a farm area under the pretext of going out briefly.

He then pushed one of the victims into a well before drowning the other child who attempted to save herself.

After the incident, the suspect allegedly tried to mislead authorities by pretending to carry out rescue efforts and claiming it was an accident.

However, villagers grew suspicious after his statements appeared inconsistent.

All four suspects later fled to a relative’s house in Gopalpur before being tracked down and arrested by police.

The bodies of both victims were subsequently retrieved from the well with the help of villagers and divers.

Police have described the case as one of the most brutal and inhumane crimes, stressing that strict action will be taken against all those involved. – Agency
