KUALA LUMPUR – Zus Coffee has launched a year-long initiative aimed at easing morning congestion in the capital by encouraging commuters to start their day earlier through discounted beverages.

The campaign, held in collaboration with the Federal Territories Department, will see more than 250 outlets across Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya offering selected drinks at lower prices during early morning hours.

The programme, themed “Bangun, KL! Ke Arah KL Yang Lebih Sejahtera”, centres on the “Masuk KL Awal” promotion, which offers coffee from as low as RM5 between 7am and 8am on weekdays via the Zus mobile application.

Speaking at the launch at Kasturi Walk, here, Zus Coffee Group chief operating officer Venon Tian said the initiative reflects the company’s role within the daily routines of urban communities.

He said the brand aims to go beyond being just a coffee provider by contributing to small but meaningful changes in city life, particularly in addressing peak-hour congestion.

According to Tian, more than 250 outlets in the Klang Valley that open as early as 7am will participate in the campaign, offering signature drinks such as Americano and CEO Latte at discounted prices to encourage earlier commutes.

"This programme was designed to foster a more vibrant and people-centric city environment.

"We support initiatives such as Zus Coffee’s Masuk KL Awal promotion, where coffee is offered from as low as RM5 as part of broader community-focused efforts," he said during the opening speech today.

He added that spreading out travel times could help reduce traffic pressure while allowing people to enjoy a calmer start to their day.

Also present at the launch were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, Zus Coffee head of operations for Malaysia and Singapore Yoganathan Muniandi and Federal Territories Sports Council chairman Datuk Stuart Ramalingam.

Officiating the event, Yeoh welcomed the collaboration, describing it as part of broader efforts to improve daily urban living in the capital.

She said initiatives like this complement government measures by introducing practical incentives that can help influence commuting behaviour.

"Every morning, about 1.2 million vehicles enter Kuala Lumpur.

"If they all arrive between 8am and 9am, congestion is unavoidable. But if even a small percentage shifts their travel earlier, it can make a significant difference," she said.

She added that the government is looking beyond infrastructure solutions by working with private sector partners to influence behavioural change.

"This is about giving time back to the people. Even a small reduction in morning stress can have a big impact on overall well-being," she said.

Data collected throughout the year-long programme will be used to assess whether such incentives can influence commuting patterns, spending habits and daily routines.

Yeoh added that similar initiatives targeting other groups, including senior citizens are expected to be rolled out in the next phase of the campaign.

She also called on more private sector companies to participate, noting that such collaborations come at no cost to the government while delivering tangible benefits to city residents.

The programme will run until Dec 31, 2026, with organisers hoping it will gradually improve traffic patterns while enhancing the overall experience of working in Kuala Lumpur.
