Bus driver fired after viral video shows woman sitting on his lap

JOHOR BAHRU – Sri Maju Group has terminated one of its express bus drivers after a video showing an indecent incident involving a woman inside the vehicle went viral on social media.
In a statement, the bus operator confirmed the driver was its employee and that the incident occurred while the bus was travelling from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan to Larkin, Johor Bahru on Sunday.
The company described the behaviour in the video as disappointing and concerning, adding that it violated standard operating procedures and professional ethics expected of drivers.
“The safety and comfort of passengers are our top priority. Such behaviour is a serious breach and is completely unacceptable,” it said.
Sri Maju Group added that it has lodged a police report, terminated the driver’s employment and reported the incident to the Land Public Transport Agency for further investigation.
The company also apologised to affected passengers and the public, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening monitoring systems, including installing closed-circuit television cameras in all buses.
“Sri Maju Group will not tolerate any behaviour that could jeopardise passenger safety,” it added.
The company said further improvements are being implemented to prevent a recurrence.
