SHAH ALAM - K-pop icons BigBang marked their long-awaited return to the global stage with a major performance at Coachella in Indio, California, kicking off their 20th anniversary celebrations.

Performing at the Outdoor Theatre, the group now comprising G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung, delivered a 60-minute, career-spanning set that reaffirmed their enduring influence while also serving as the official launch of their anniversary world tour, Bigshow: Reborn.

Despite the strong reception to their performance, the absence of former member T.O.P remained a notable point of discussion among fans worldwide.

The performance was widely regarded as one of the most significant K-pop appearances of 2026, with the group headlining Coachella’s second-largest stage, an indicator of their enduring global stature nearly two decades after their debut.

Their return carried added weight given the years of anticipation surrounding a full-group comeback, positioning the night as both a celebration of legacy and a signal of renewed activity on the international stage.

BigBang’s set was carefully curated to reflect the evolution of their musical journey, blending mainstream hits with deeper cuts that resonated with long-time fans.

They opened with the explosive intro of “Bang Bang Bang” immediately energising the crowd, before transitioning into “Fantastic Baby,” a track widely credited with shaping K-pop’s global breakthrough in the 2010s.

The performance continued with fan favourites such as “We Like 2 Party,” “Haru Haru” and “Bad Boy,” alongside additional tracks including “Sober,” “Lies” and “Loser.”

Beyond the physical audience in California, the performance reached millions worldwide through YouTube, which streamed Coachella sets across multiple stages in real time.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the absence of T.O.P remained a defining subplot of the night. While he did not appear on stage, his presence was still felt through pre-recorded vocals incorporated into the group’s original tracks during the performance.

Questions still lingers among fans about the group’s future configuration and whether a full reunion could still materialise.

BigBang’s return to Coachella reinforced their role as pioneers in the globalisation of K-pop, demonstrating their continued relevance in an industry that has evolved significantly since their debut.

Even as questions remain about lineup completeness and future releases, the group’s ability to command one of the world’s largest festival stages highlighted the lasting impact of their music and cultural influence.
