Tamil Chitirai Puthandu, Vaisakhi celebrations symbolise new beginning, hopes and determination
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said this new year is also an opportunity to renew resolve, strengthen human values and instil a stronger spirit of unity in daily life.

KUALA LUMPUR - The Tamil Chitirai Puthandu celebration and Vaisakhi Day, which are celebrated simultaneously today, are symbols of a new beginning full of inspiration, hope, determination, strengthening of noble values and empowerment of unity among the multi-racial community in this country.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said this new year is also an opportunity to renew resolve, strengthen human values and instil a stronger spirit of unity in daily life.
He stressed that the family institution plays an important role as the foundation of national unity because the values of respect, love, tolerance and mutual understanding are nurtured from childhood in the family environment.
"Children raised in an atmosphere of harmony will grow up as individuals who appreciate diversity.
"Therefore, every parent and family member plays an important role as early educators in shaping a generation with a big heart and high morals,” he said in a post on his official Facebook today.
Aaron said that unity also does not begin on the big stage but at the dining table, living room and in every daily interaction in the family and when this value is instilled consistently, it becomes a strong foundation for the harmony of the multi-racial and multi-religious Malaysian society.
"Unity is the key to the strength of the country. Without unity, progress is difficult to achieve and stability will be threatened.
"However, with strong unity, Malaysia can stand majestically as a peaceful, inclusive and progressive country. The diversity we have is not a weakness, but the country's greatest asset that needs to be preserved and celebrated together,” he said.
Meanwhile, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the Vaisakhi celebration is a Sikh community celebration to commemorate the birth of the Khalsa which is based on the values of courage, equality and determination to defend truth.
According to him, the celebration is not only related to the harvest season, but also symbolises the strength of identity, unity and spirit of the Sikh community.
"In conjunction with this noble celebration, may you be blessed with an abundance of joy, love and happiness,” he said.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the simultaneous celebration of Chitirai Puthandu, Vaisakhi and Vishu is not just a celebration of the new year for the Tamil, Sikh and Malayalee communities, but also a symbol of unity, cultural richness and strengthening of identity and spirituality.
He said that in the spirit of the new year, the people are expected to reflect, renew their intentions and strengthen their noble values in life, while continuing to guide the younger generation with knowledge, discipline and a strong identity for the future of the country.
"Happy new year, may you continue to be blessed with lasting well-being, prosperity and unity,” he said. - BERNAMA
