‘What did my brother do wrong, why beat him to death?’
Zakir sustained severe head injuries before he died after 17 hours of fighting for his life in the hospital.

KOTA BHARU – The family of a learning-disabled man who died after allegedly being beaten up in Bachok is urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the attack.
The victim’s younger sister, Nur Aina Mohd Zainal, 18, said the family still does not know what led to the attack that left her brother, Muhammad Zakir Fikry Mohd Zainal, 20, with severe head injuries before he died after 17 hours of fighting for his life in hospital.
She said the deceased had no enemies and was known as a quiet person who never caused trouble for anyone.
“We truly don’t know the real cause of this incident, as he never fought with anyone.
“We just want to know why he was treated like that and what actually happened,” she told reporters at Kampung Karang, Banggu here on Wednesday.
Zakir was found lying unconscious by residents at Ladang Merdeka Cherbu, by the roadside in Kampung Chap, Bekelam here on Tuesday.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment but passed away at 12.55am on Wednesday.
Aina said she was informed about the incident after seeing photos of her brother’s injuries sent by family members at around 7.30am.
She then immediately contacted her father, who was at work at the time and was told that her brother was in critical condition at Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia Kubang Kerian.
She added that on the night of the incident, the victim had reportedly gone out after borrowing his employer’s motorcycle to collect something but did not return home.
“Several hours later, we were informed that my brother had been found lying unconscious with injuries before being taken to hospital,” she said.
She added that the family is leaving it entirely to the police to investigate and determine the true motive behind the incident.
