SHAH ALAM – Actress Kat Graham has revealed that her portrayal of Diana Ross in the recently released biopic Michael was removed from the final cut due to legal considerations.
The 36-year-old actress shared the update in a social media post on April 23, confirming that her scenes did not make it into the final version of the film despite being part of the original production.
“Ahead of the April 24 release of the Michael Jackson film, I want to share that certain legal considerations affected a few scenes, including the ones I filmed with an incredible cast.
“Unfortunately, those moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible,” Graham posted Thursday evening on social media.
While Graham did not elaborate in detail on the legal issues involved, the revelation has drawn attention from fans of both the actress and Ross, who was known to have had a close relationship with Jackson.

Ross played an important role in Jackson’s early career, particularly during his transition from the Jackson 5 to a solo artist, and was widely regarded as a lifelong mentor, close friend and maternal figure to him.
The removal of a figure as significant as Ross has raised questions about how certain aspects of Jackson’s personal life were portrayed on screen.
Despite the omission, the film continues to draw strong public interest following its release, with audiences closely examining how the biopic handles both the personal and professional dimensions of Jackson’s life.
The development also highlights the complex legal and rights-related challenges often faced in biographical filmmaking, particularly when portraying real-life figures and their relationships.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film focuses on the singer’s early life, including his complex relationship with his father, Joe Jackson, as he navigates the pressures of fame and the transition from the Jackson 5 to a solo career.
The film features Jaafar Jackson, the real-life nephew of Jackson, in the lead role, with Colman Domingo and Nia Long portraying Joe and Katherine Jackson.
The supporting cast includes Miles Teller as John Branca, Laura Harrier as Suzanne De Passe, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, and Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy.
