KUALA LUMPUR – A state election in Negeri Sembilan may not be held following the current political uncertainty in the state.

However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the matter depended on the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, as well as the proceedings of the State Legislative Assembly.

“It may not (be held). It depends. Because it is up to His Royal Highness and of course, the state assembly sitting,” he said.

He said this after attending a closed-door meeting with Huawei’s top management, held in conjunction with the launch of the Huawei AI Lab and Innovation Centre here on Monday.

He was responding to a question on whether a state election would be called to resolve the situation in Negeri Sembilan.

He said any developments regarding the state’s administration would be announced in the near future.

Meanwhile, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would meet Anwar soon to discuss the matter.

Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said the meeting would, among others, touch on the actions of 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblymen who withdrew their support for the state government led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

On Monday, Aminuddin, in a press conference, stressed that he remains the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan despite the withdrawal of support by the 14 BN assemblymen. - AWANI
