'Imran Koyube' gets prison, cane for travel scam
The accused pleaded guilty as soon as the charge was read.
SABAK BERNAM – An individual known as ‘Imran Koyube’ is sentenced to one year in prison and one stroke of the cane by the Sungai Besar magistrate’s court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to a travel package scam.
Sabak Bernam district police chief Superintendent Md Yusof Ahmad said police received a report on Dec 26 last year regarding a scam carried out using the name of a travel agency.
Following the report, he said an investigation paper was opened under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
“Acting on investigations, the suspect was arrested on April 24.
“He was remanded for four days to assist in investigations before being charged at the Sungai Besar magistrate’s court yesterday morning,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the accused pleaded guilty as soon as the charge was read.
“The court sentenced the accused to one year’s imprisonment and one stroke of the cane,” he added.
Earlier, a man was arrested to assist investigations into a fraud case and remanded for four days until April 28 under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
Sinar Harian previously reported that a woman claimed her identity was used by the suspect, who was also her former husband, to manage debts without her knowledge.
The case drew wider attention following viral posts on social media.
Through the posts, the suspect was alleged to have been involved in similar scams previously before resuming activities using different identities and agency names.
