Mother killed, son critical as lorry veers into oncoming motorcycle
The lorry driver, 40, was unhurt.

ROMPIN - A woman was killed and her six-year-old son left in critical condition after their motorcycle was struck by a runaway lorry at Kilometre 64, Jalan Ibam-Rompin, near the Kampung Kundang electrical substation here on Wednesday.
Rompin district police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the crash occurred at about 4.45pm.
The victim, Normala Siti, 31, of RPS Kedaik, Kuala Rompin, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Hospital Muadzam Shah.

Her son, Cheau Ket Daren, who sustained serious injuries, was also treated at the same hospital. The lorry driver, 40, was unhurt.
Sharif said preliminary investigations indicated the Hino tipper lorry was travelling from the Felda Selendang direction towards Muadzam Shah when its engine suddenly stalled.
The steering then allegedly failed, causing the vehicle to lose control, cross into the oncoming lane and collide with the motorcycle carrying the mother and child.

Both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Hospital Muadzam Shah, where Normala was pronounced dead in the emergency unit at 7.45pm.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Sharif urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer at 017-9249261 or the nearest police station.
