Genting Highlands road charges kick in May 28

KUALA LUMPUR - Motorists travelling to Genting Highlands will have to pay road charges beginning May 28, 2026 as part of a new fee structure introduced by Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd (LCSB), the authorised operator for Jalan Genting Highlands.

In a statement, LCSB said the charges will be implemented in two phases, with all permitted road users except exempted categories required to pay upon entry into the hill resort via Genting Sempah or Gohtong Jaya.

Under the first phase, Class 1 vehicles (cars and vans) will be charged RM5 per entry at both access points.

Medium lorries will be charged RM15, heavy lorries RM25, taxis RM3.30 and buses RM5.

Vehicles in Class 2, 3, 4 and 5 are required to use “Lorong Khas” lanes or Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) systems for entry.

LCSB said certain categories are exempted, including emergency vehicles and motorcycles, which do not require registration.

Private vehicles belonging to public servants working at selected government institutions in Genting Highlands are also exempted, subject to registration and entry via LPR or Lorong Khas lanes.

From June 28, 2026, LCSB will register up to two Class 1 vehicles for eligible permanent residents of Genting Highlands, who may opt for either a discounted rate or a season pass.

“Eligible permanent residents will enjoy a preferential rate of 10% lower than the normal rate per entry by using the LPR Lanes / Lorong Khas,” LCSB said, adding that registered Vehicles will not incur any charges prior to June 28.

In addition, LCSB will introduce a six-month season pass scheme for registered permanent residents.

“The season pass will entitle holders to unlimited entries into Jalan Genting Highlands throughout its validity period via LPR Lanes or Lorong Khas, providing greater convenience and significant cost savings,” it said.

Permanent residents who are interested can obtain the season pass by submitting an application and making the necessary payment. - THE STAR
