Tour bus accident in Genting Highlands, seven foreign tourists injured

SHAH ALAM – Seven individuals were injured in an accident involving two tour buses and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) at Kilometre 15 of the downhill stretch along Jalan Genting Highlands–Genting Sempah this evening.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5.29pm, Bernama reported.
A fire engine from the Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue Station, along with four personnel, was immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived at 6.06pm.
According to Salahuddin, the first tour bus was driven by a local driver and was carrying 35 foreign passengers.
“One of the buses, carrying 36 passengers from Nepal, overturned, resulting in six people sustaining injuries. Meanwhile, all 34 passengers from Bangladesh and Nepal travelling in the second tour bus were reported safe and did not suffer any injuries,” he said in a statement today.
Salahuddin added that one of the three individuals travelling in the SUV was also injured, while the other two escaped unharmed.
“All victims managed to exit their respective vehicles before the arrival of the fire and rescue team at the scene,” he said.
Firefighters provided initial assistance to the injured before handing them over to the Health Ministry personnel for further treatment at a hospital.
In addition to rescue operations, firefighters also carried out oil spill clean-up works to ensure the road was safe for other motorists.
The situation was brought under control at 7.17pm.
