JOHOR BAHRU - A woman pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of causing the death of her newborn baby girl.

Nuran Batrisya Jamaludin, 22, appeared calm while nodding in understanding when the charge was read before Judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee.

She was accused of causing the infant’s death at the parking area of a People's Housing Project (PPR) in Skudai between 11 am and 2.30 pm on May 20.

The charge was brought under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and a fine upon conviction.

The court then set July 3 for document submission, pending the autopsy report and sentencing.

Deputy public prosecutor R. Nevina did not offer any bail to the woman, who has another baby, the twin of the victim.

However, the court allowed the accused, who was unrepresented by counsel, bail of RM20,000 with two sureties, along with additional conditions, including surrendering her passport to the court and reporting to the nearest police station once a month.

In May, police were reported to have arrested a woman on suspicion of throwing her newborn baby girl from the 10th floor of a flat in the city. - BERNAMA
