JAIM nabs married woman and male companion in Batu Berendam

MELAKA - A clerk, whose husband is serving a prison sentence was caught fornicating with a man in a house in Batu Berendam here, last Friday.

Enforcement officers from the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) inspected the house in an operation conducted at around 12.30pm, after receiving a public complaint.

JAIM director, Datuk Md Azhan Samat said the inspection found the 36-year-old woman inside the house.

“Further investigation later found a 36-year-old man hiding in a cupboard on the top floor of the house.

“Initial investigation found that the man involved was still single while the woman was married,” he said on Sunday.

He said that both failed to produce any documents to prove theirrelationship.

He said that the couple was then taken to the JAIM office for documentation purposes and further investigation according to Section 53 of the Melaka Syariah Offences Enactment 1991.

Meanwhile, he explained that the continuous enforcements carried out by JAIM were not intended to humiliate any party but rather as an effort to educate the community to comply with religious demands.

He also said that this was to avoid acts that are contrary to Syariah law.
