KANGAR – The Perlis State Legislative Assembly continues to operate as normal despite the political shockwaves created by Pas' decision to end its cooperation with Bersatu at the national level, according to State Assembly Speaker Rus'sele Eizan.

He said no new instructions had been issued concerning the status of the Perlis assembly and that all administrative matters remained unaffected for now.

Rus'sele stressed that any move to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly rests solely with the Menteri Besar.

"If the State Assembly is to be dissolved, that is Menteri Besar's right. So far, there have been no instructions.

"The status of the Perlis State Assembly remains as usual. At this point, there is nothing new. There may be new developments in two or three days, so we will wait," he said, today.

His remarks came amid growing attention on the political implications of Pas' decision to immediately terminate its political cooperation with Bersatu, a move that has altered the landscape of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

Meanwhile, Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said he was not prepared to comment on the state's political situation at this stage.

"I am currently out of the area. I have no comments at the moment based on the latest developments," he said.

On Monday, Pas announced that it had decided to end its political relationship with Bersatu following a special meeting of its Central Working Committee, which was convened to determine the party's direction in a new political phase.

Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision was reached after a comprehensive review of the position and future direction of Pas-Bersatu cooperation, taking into account reports, studies and current political assessments.

While the national development has sparked speculation about its impact on states governed under PN’s banner, Perlis leaders have so far indicated that the state's administration and legislative assembly remain unchanged pending any further developments.
