SHAH ALAM – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has decided to remain in Perikatan Nasional (PN) and strengthen its core struggle as a founding party of the coalition.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin said the main focus now is to ensure that the people-centric agenda championed by PN continues to be strengthened, despite no longer cooperating with Pas.

“As a founding party of PN, Bersatu will continue to remain in PN and reinforce its core principles.

“Bersatu will continue to strengthen the people-centric agenda brought by PN since its establishment, as well as drive the aspirations of the people who seek change and leadership that represents all Malaysians,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

At the same time, Muhyiddin expressed regret over Pas' decision to sever political ties with Bersatu.

“The cooperation built on noble spirit and mutual understanding has been terminated by Pas.

“The decision to end political cooperation and sever ties with Bersatu was made at Pas' own discretion,” he said.

He therefore urged party members and allies to remain focused on efforts to strengthen PN.

“All levels of leadership and members must continue to place the people’s interests as the main priority and remain even more resilient in facing this latest challenge.

“I am confident that the people who support PN’s aspirations will remain steadfast with us. Surely there is wisdom behind what has happened and may Allah SWT grant us guidance and blessings,” he added.

Earlier, Pas shocked the nation’s political landscape by deciding to immediately end its political cooperation with Bersatu following a special meeting of the Pas Central Working Committee held on Monday.

Its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision was made after the party reviewed the position and direction of Pas-Bersatu political cooperation based on reports, studies and comprehensive current assessments.
