KUALA LUMPUR - A man who recorded a video of himself hurling vulgarities at a police officer over a traffic summons was arrested on Tuesday.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Basri Sagoni said the incident occurred at around 8.24am on Monday while officers were conducting a patrol and traffic enforcement operation.

"The officer issued a summons to a Proton Preve for a traffic offence.

"During the enforcement action, the vehicle's owner, a local man, approached the officer while recording a video on his mobile phone," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Basri said the man also hurled vulgarities and provoked the officer, expressing his displeasure over the summons.

"Following a police report lodged over the incident, an investigation was opened under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

"Based on information gathered and investigations conducted, a 25-year-old local man was arrested at a business premises in Jalan Dato Senu here at around 2.36am today (Tuesday)," he said.

Basri said police also seized an Infinix mobile phone and a SIM card believed to be linked to the case.

"Initial investigations found that the suspect admitted to recording the video of the officer on duty as he was unhappy with the enforcement action taken against him," he said.

The suspect was remanded for three days from Tuesday to Thursday to facilitate further investigations. A urine test conducted on the suspect returned a negative result.

Basri advised the public not to speculate or spread information that could interfere with the investigation.

"Any form of insult, threat, harassment or action that obstructs a public servant from carrying out their duties is an offence under the law, and stern action will be taken against anyone who does so.

"Members of the public with information related to any crime may contact the Sentul district police headquarters operations room at 03-40482222 or the nearest police station," he said.
