Gold bullion forfeiture challenge involving ex-army chief's wife set for July 31

KUALA LUMPUR - The Sessions Court here today allowed the government's application to issue a third-party notice in the Gazette against anyone wishing to challenge the forfeiture of 3.85 kg of gold bullion seized from an acquaintance of Salwani Anuar @ Kamaruddin, the wife of former Army Chief Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan.

Judge Suzana Hussin set July 31 as the hearing date for any party with an interest in the gold bullion, which was seized from contractor Mohamad Amirul Yusrie Aminorddin @ Ab Kadir, 31.

If no third party comes forward, the asset will be forfeited to the government.

The court allowed the third-party notice application under Section 41(2) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 after Mohamad Amirul Yusrie’s lawyer, Muhammad Kausar Mohd Khairi, confirmed that his client had no objection to the application.

Deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat's request to issue the notice was thereby approved, paving the way for the Gazette notification.

Based on the notice filed on May 4, the prosecution is seeking to forfeit the gold bullion to the government.

The bullion was seized under Subsection 41(1) of the MACC Act 2009.

On Jan 15, former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the total value of seizures in Ops Parasit, an operation targeting a former Army Chief that began on Dec 23, 2025, was estimated at RM11.4 million.

He added that 75 company accounts totalling RM32.5 million had also been frozen.

Seizures in the case include RM4.4 million in cash, RM1.4 million in foreign currency, a Range Rover SVR worth RM360,000, and 26 luxury watches valued at RM2.3 million.

Also seized were jewellery worth RM294,039, two diamond rings valued at RM20,000, 3.7 kg of gold bullion worth RM2.5 million, a 150-g gold medallion worth RM102,000, and two gold dinars weighing 8.5 g valued at RM5,780. - BERNAMA
