One burned to death and another injured in Manjung two-vehicle crash

MANJUNG – One person was burned to death while another was injured in a two-vehicle crash at Jalan Batu 9, Kampung Semangat, Segari here on Thursday.
The Pantai Remis Fire and Rescue Station received a call regarding the incident at 4:36am involving a Toyota Innova multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a trailer truck.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division Assistant Director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, stated that based on preliminary information, the MPV caught fire and was about 90 percent destroyed after it was believed to have collided with the heavy vehicle.
“The firefighting team carried out extinguishing operations before discovering a victim trapped and burned to death inside the vehicle.
"The victim's body was then extricated using special equipment and handed over to the police for further action," he said in a statement on Thursday.
He added that the identity of the deceased victim has not yet been confirmed.
Meanwhile, the 60 year old male trailer driver sustained only minor injuries and was given preliminary treatment at the scene.
"The fire was successfully brought completely under control at 5:30am.
"Road clearing work was also carried out to remove vehicle debris and oil spills resulting from the accident," he said.
The operation, which involved six firefighters, ended completely at 6:48am.
