SHAH ALAM – Police have detained a young couple believed to be involved in a violent robbery attempt that left a e-hailing driver injured at the Tun Sri Lanang bus terminal in Kota Tinggi.

Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said both suspects, aged 20, were apprehended in separate operations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on the same day.

He said that the female suspect was arrested at the bus terminal at about 11am, while the male suspect was later picked up at Dataran Larkin in Johor Bahru around 2.30pm.

“A knife, believed to have been used during the incident, was also recovered,” he said.

Images showing the victim’s injuries before and after treatment have since circulated widely on social media.

The arrests were made following investigations into an attempted robbery involving a 30-year-old e-hailing driver, who sustained injuries after being slashed in the neck during the attack.

Initial investigations found that the suspects did not test positive for drugs, although both individuals have previous criminal records.

Yusof added that the suspects were brought before the Magistrate’s Court in Kota Tinggi, where police obtained a five-day remand order to facilitate further investigation.

Authorities were first alerted to the incident after receiving an emergency call via the Malaysian Emergency Response Services (MERS 999).

Despite the severity of the attack, the victim did not suffer any financial loss.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang and armed robbery.
