Mother, son critically injured after being hit by car while crossing road
Both victims are receiving treatment in the red zone at HTAA.

KUANTAN – A woman and her four-year-old son were seriously injured after being struck by a car while crossing Jalan Tanah Putih, near Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at around 7.30pm.
The 43-year-old woman sustained head and right arm injuries as well as internal bleeding, while her son suffered internal bleeding and a concussion.
Both victims are receiving treatment in the red zone at HTAA.
Kuantan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said initial investigations found the accident involved a Perodua Axia driven by a 28-year-old man travelling from Tanjung Lumpur towards Gambang.
“Upon reaching the scene, the driver, who was in the right lane, is believed to have been unable to swerve in time after both victims suddenly crossed the road from the Kuantan esplanade towards HTAA.
“As a result of the collision, the woman and child sustained injuries before being taken to HTAA for treatment,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He added that initial investigations found the accident was caused by the pedestrians’ failure to use the pedestrian bridge provided for crossing the road.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
