KENINGAU - A store worker was injured after being assaulted by several individuals for confronting a drunken man who was kicking a shop's shutter door at a premises here last Saturday.

In the incident, which occurred at about 10 pm, the 22-year-old victim suffered body pain, facial bruises and a bleeding nose.

Keningau District Police Chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai said police received a report regarding the incident from the victim.

"Investigations found that before the incident, an argument had broken out between the suspect and his own friend while they were at a bar. At the time of the incident, the victim was preparing to close the premises.

"The suspect, who was intoxicated, came down from the bar and began kicking and punching the shop's shutter door. The victim then confronted the man over his actions, but was scolded and subsequently assaulted by three other individuals," he told Sinar Harian when contacted on Monday.

He added that the victim's friend, who witnessed the incident, retaliated by assaulting one of the suspects' friends who failed to escape.

"As a result of the incident, the victim suffered pain at the back of his head and body, a bleeding nose and swelling on his face," he said.

The incident led to the arrest of two suspects who admitted their involvement in the case, while another accomplice remains at large.

"The two men, aged 29 and 18, have been remanded for four days beginning Tuesday and the case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 160 of the Penal Code," he said.
